Tarragon Receives Groundbreaking Support from The Slaight Family Foundation

September 28, 2022 – Tarragon Theatre is honoured to be one of over twenty companies who are recipients of The Slaight Family Foundation Theatre Initiative, helping theatres in pandemic recovery “to take the artistic risk needed to bring back audiences and reignite creative processes,
funding artists fees, production development and marketing costs over the next two years,“ as described in the The Slaight Family Foundation’s press release issued this morning.

Thanks to the support and generosity of The Slaight Family Foundation Initiative, Tarragon will embolden our artistic practice, investigating the rich scope of stories that shape Canada today and the evolving discourse of new play creation and dramaturgy. In this time of growth and transition,
we are grounded in our three guiding principles – artistic excellence, impact, and care – as we aim to contribute to a thriving arts sector and create meaningful experiences for artists and audiences alike.

Over two years, Tarragon will focus on creators, artistic and production staff, marketing and audience building, including exciting collaborative commissions and the development of new dramaturgical programs.

Tarragon Artistic Director Mike Payette shares, “The efforts of the Slaight Family Foundation to support our theatre ecology during this time, and in such a meaningful way, are absolutely exceptional and game- changing. The foundation’s contribution will allow us to deepen our relationship with storytellers and theatre makers, advance the scope of dramaturgical conversation in creation and production, empower our staff with significant and timely support, and advance our visibility and accessibility to ensure a dynamic bridge between our audiences, the greater community, and our theatre.”

We are so grateful to be part of this initiative serving our theatre community.
