$95,000 OTF Grant from the Ontario Government Helps Tarragon Theatre Explore Capital Opportunities
Toronto, ON – On Tuesday evening, MPP Stephanie Smyth was invited by Tarragon Theatre to deliver some remarks before its premiere of ‘Bremen Town’ to acknowledge the work done with a $95,000 Resilient Communities Fund grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The 18-month grant, awarded in 2024, has been used by Tarragon Theatre to consult with outside experts on new strategies for fundraising and architectural opportunities.
“The Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Resilient Communities Fund is designed to help organizations adapt and grow stronger, and I cannot think of a more deserving recipient than the Tarragon Theatre, whose commitment to telling Canadian stories and engaging diverse audiences has made a lasting contribution to the cultural fabric of our community,” said Stephanie Smyth, MPP for Toronto-St. Paul’s.
Since receiving the grant, Tarragon Theatre has been focused on exploring various opportunities involving the capital development in the neighbourhood, while building on its internal resilience and capacity.
“Tarragon deeply values the financial support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation that is making our exploration of a capital planning feasibility study possible,” noted Lisa Li, Executive Director, Tarragon Theatre. “We love our home here at the corner of Howland and Bridgman, and we love everyone who lives and visits Tarragon Village, and Tarragon Theatre. Our dream is to make our 100+ year old building a welcoming space for all, and to continue to contribute to the neighbourhood’s vibrancy. OTF’s support in our investigation of significant building improvements is meaningful in so many ways and we are honoured to give recognition to them today.”
Founded in 1970, with its mission to create, develop and produce new plays to provide the conditions for new work to thrive, Tarragon Theatre has produced hundreds of new Canadian plays.
